Setting up a Hikvision DVR Camera

Before you start setting up 

  • Note that appropriate startup and switch off procedures are vital to increase the life of the device.
  • The voltage of the extra power supply must be the same as the device’s requirement.
  • It is mostly suggested that an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) be applied in conjunction with the device.
  • Connect the device power supply interface and electrical socket with delivered power cable. The power button will be red, demonstrating the device is getting power.

Activate device

  • Step 1 You are going to activate the device by setting an admin password. The step can be done by means of Web Browser, SADP, or Client Software. Enter the password twice.

* Choose a strong password in order to increase security of the product.

  • Step 2 Enter the password to activate the IP camera(s) connected to device.
  • Step 3 Check Export GUID, Security Question Configuration, or Reserved E-mail Settings for password resetting later.
  • Step 4 Click OK.

*As you have enabled Export GUID, Security Question Configuration, or Reserved E-mail Settings, go on to set the security questions for future resetting.

Configure Unlock Pattern

  • Step 1 Choose a pattern to unlock the device, after activation.
  • Step 2 Draw a pattern via the mouse among 9 dots on the screen, then release it.


  • Step 3 Draw the pattern twice to confirm it.


Login via password or pattern

  • Step 1 Choose the User Name in the drop-down list.

  • Step 2 Enter password.
  • Step 3 Click OK.

* If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.


  • Step 1 Right click the mouse on the screen to input the interface.

  • Step 2 Draw the unlock pattern.

* If you draw wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal login mode.

Enter Wizard to Configure Quick Basic Settings

*Setup Wizard leads you through essential settings of the device. If you don’t want to use it at the moment, press Exit button.

  • Step 1 Set the date and time as it is shown in the image.

  • Step 2 After that click Next to input the Network Setup Wizard window, as follow.


  • Step 3 After network configuration click Next, which walk you through the HDD Management

  • Step 4 Click Init The procedure removes all the data saved in the HDD.
  • Step 5 Click Next, then enter the Camera Setup interface to add the IP cameras.
  • Before adding the camera, click Search to find the online IP camera in order to be sure that the IP camera to be added is in active status.
  • Click Add.

*In order to activate the cameras, you can choose the camera from the list and click Activate.

  • Step 7 Click Next to change password in order to create the new admin password if needed.

  • Step 8 Click OK to complete the procedure.

System operation (Log out)

  • Step 1 Click on the menu bar.
  • Step 2 Click Logout.

*After logging out the system, menu operation on the screen is invalid. It is needed to enter a user name and password to unlock the system.

Switch off the system

  • Step 1 Click on the menu bar.
  • Step 2 Click the Shutdown.
  • Step 3 Click the Yes.

*As the system is switching off, do not conduct power off operation again.

Reboot the Device

On the shutdown menu, you will be able to reboot the device.

  • Step 1 Click on the menu bar.
  • Step 2 Click Reboot in order to reboot the device.

Add IP Cameras (Manually)

Make sure the connection is correct, then the IP camera to add has before been activated.

  • Step 1 Click on the menu bar.
  • Step 2 Click Camera, IP camera, then Custom Add on the title bar or click in the idle channel window to enter the Add IP Camera
  • Step 3 Enter IP address, protocol, management port and other information of the IP camera to add.
  • Step 4 Input the login user name and password of the IP camera.

  • Step 5 To finish the adding of the IP camera click Add.
  • Step 6 In order to add other IP cameras click Continue to Add (optional).


Add IP Cameras (Automatically Searched Online IP Cameras)

  • Step 1 Click the Number of Unadded Online Device on the IP Camera, to expand the panel.
  • Step 2 Choose the Automatically searched online devices.
  • Step 3 Click Add

* For iDS-7200HQHI-K/S and iDS-7200HUHI-K/S series, when IP camera is added, the device will automatically switch the resolution to WD1/D1 and switch the bit rate to 512 Kbps.

Connecting PoC Cameras

*Make sure that your device supports PoC (Power over Coaxitron) cameras connection.

  • Step 1 Connect the PoC camera to the DVR.
  • Step 2 Go the Menu, Camera, PoC Status.
  • Step 3 Switch on the PoC for the channel(s) as you want.
  • Step 3 Check the status of the connected PoC camera.
  • Step 4 Check the connected AF or AT camera number and the connectable camera number.

*Only Hikvision PoC camera is supported.

Configuring Signal Input Channel

  • Step 1 Click on the menu bar.
  • Step 2 Click Camera, Analog.

  • Step 3 Check the checkbox to choose various signal input types. As you choose HD/CVBS, four kinds of analog signal inputs as Turbo HD, AHD, HDCVI, and CVBS can be connected randomly for the chosen channel. If you select IP, IP camera can be connected for the selected channel.
  • Step 4 To save the settings click Apply.

* You can view the max. accessible number of IP cameras in the Max. IP Camera Number text field. Refer to the specifications for the max. accessible IP camera number of different models.
